First Sport Fishing School in Puerto Vallarta
This school will be the first school of its kind in the history of Puerto Vallarta. The talented fisherman Fernando García, who earned the title of the World Champion of Deep Sea Fishing in 2016, is planning to serve as an instructor. The school will be located in front of the malecón fishing cooperative which is opposite the Bodeguita del Medio on the Malecon boardwalk. Local families are invited to participate in the school recognizing that fishermen are an important part of the history of Puerto Vallarta. García is also helping to organize a free fishing tournament with free bait to officially inaugurate the opening of the school. In addition, there will be prizes awarded to top performers as well.
More About the School
The school will focus on a multidisciplinary approach to instruction. Classes will include teaching the art of fishing by going back to ancient fishing techniques that utilized a bottle, a yoyo, and a piece of wood. All ages are accepted from children up to adults who want to learn how to fish.
Local fishermen are planning to participate to share their knowledge and experience with students as well. Once the skill level of the students progresses, they will move from theory to practice. First, they will start fishing on the beach and then they will head out to sea. In addition, local sponsors are helping to support the project as well.
